I couldn't have gone to a better place for treatment. The staff genuinely care about you, and sobriety. They have taught me so much, and passed along life long tools for recovery. They really help you understand the underlying issues, and focus on working the program. Everyone's generally nice client wise.

When I got to Burkwood, I was hopeless and desperate. I didn't know how to live with drugs and alcohol anymore, and I didn't know how to live without them. I finally admitted that I could not quit alone. I needed help. I tried my best to keep an open mind while at Burkwood. I learned a lot about the disease of Addiction and Alcoholism and a lot about myself. I learned to laugh again. I made new friends. I searched my past and investigated how my use had affected my life and others'. I admitted to my innermost self that I had this disease. I began to understand that this disease is progressive and fatal, and to treat it, I needed to find a new way of living. I found the beginnings of that solution at Burkwood. I started dealing with the underlying issues that contributed to my drug and alcohol use. There were a variety of ways to learn and grow, small groups, individual counseling, lots of materials and also fun things to do like volleyball. My counselor was great, the recovery advocates were helpful and I felt like they cared about my success during and after treatment. I would recommend Burkwood to anyone who is serious about quitting alcohol and drugs.

Good overall experience! Nice people and atmosphere. Wish they would have discussed medication options and had more opportunity for individual therapy.

I arrived at Burkwood full of regret and shame in early December 2016, during my intake I felt the care and compassion of the staff. The sense of sincerity was appreciated and gave me a small sense of relief. Shortly after being there my counselor met with me and welcomed me gave me a quick run of what to the curriculum and told me he had an open door and if I ever need to talk to come by. At that point I realized I may be in the right place, and that short visit left me with a feeling of trust. During the first group meeting I was surprised at how my peers made me feel welcome the kindness they showed seemed awkward and I later realized that their welcoming is due to the atmosphere created by the staff through peer leaders and into the community. Being in treatment over the holiday was difficult, but one thing stuck out, on New Years Day the director came and offered an optional group which I attended. I don't recall the content of the group but was impressed that that he showed up when he could be with family. The doughnuts and coffee were nice, but the key was when he said that "recovery never takes a day off" and that is why he was here it left me with the realization of what a special place Burkwood really is. A homogeneous group of clients that become peers and leave having sensed being in a big family. Overall I was very satisfied with the treatment received and would recommend Burkwood to anyone. I attended Burkwood treatment center in the relatively recent past. Self-pay and private insurance clients are housed a few miles away in considerably nicer accommodations. Everyone else is thrown into an old house-like building that is way too small for how many people are there. The counselors seemed professional for the most part. The tech staff are referred to as 'recovery advocates' and most of them are very helpful and great people. There have been instances in the past in which some of the female recovery advocates have engaged in sexual relations with male clients at the facility. Seems like there was a lot of workplace politics and unprofessionalism that clients were exposed to and that should not have been the case. I met a lot of great people at Burkwood and feel I was helped immensely to get out of the hole I was in and I am still doing well. However, the program really could use some better management and professionalism.

I have referred many patients to this program in the past. They are easy to work with and friendly.
